SUNDAY NOVEMBER 16, 2008Do you feel a connection to the stage but also have a knack for more stationary three-dimensional art? The Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts launched a competition earlier this month to design a new statue for the Dora Mavor Moore Awards. You have to be an Ontario resident who is eighteen years of age or older and you will have to be pay a submission fee - on the other hand, the winner gets $2000.*
Obviously there are a lot of practical criteria that have to be met - ranging from production cost and portability to leaving a space for the winning-name plaque. But artistically speaking, TAPA has only outlined two criteria - judges will be looking for something that "reflects excellence in Toronto’s theatre, dance and opera community" and "embodies the spirit of Dora".
The previous design was a harlequin figure, as seen in Rick Miller's hand on this news page from
WYRD Productions (um, the Dora would be the thing in his
left hand). If you've got an idea as good or better, you've got until January 12th to get your submission package in.
